What are your thoughts on the concept of living a very long life?

Living a very long life may have its drawbacks. Quality of life is valuable and living a life of quality is desirable. However, living a long and dull life may be less valuable depending on the sort of person you are. If you are of a dull disposition you may enjoy an extended life of pabulum because you have no need for anything else. You will no doubt enjoy limitless blandness without boredom. The sun will rise each day and set so many hours later as you fail to acknowledge anything of interest because by nature, you are dull. You simply are not interested. But this in itself maybe interesting. How could you be so dull as to fail to notice anything? The uniqueness of dullness. On the other hand, you are probably not interesting. No, you are just dull.

  1. I assume you wrote this in a satirical vein. All human life is, however, precious. What may be “dull” in one person’s estimation, can be extraordinary in another’s.

We give enormous credit to celebrities, many of whom are famous simply for being famous. But God’s light often shines brightest in dark places. No one applauds the spouse who faithfully cares for a dying wife or husband.

It took Covid for us to recognize the importance of trash collectors, truck drivers, delivery men, and healthcare workers. That appreciation was short lived.

When we evaluate life exclusively in material terms, we forget that each man and woman was made in the image of God.

    1. Hi Anna,
Thank you for response and spiritual reflection
I should add that I think you are a powerful writer
I’ve just read this post again and am trying to recall the headspace I was in
I think I’m trying to relentlessly drive home a point
A combination of philosophy and satire in an attempt to establish a personal writing style
Don’t know if it’s successful but am happy with the outcome
Yes, satire isn’t always friendly and yes, I acknowledge it can be at the expense of someone or something
I also acknowledge that certain satirical expression can backfire
Coming from Oz, I am aware of two very public examples and they maybe of interest

      1. Thank you for your kind words.

I think I owe you an apology. I tend to travel w/ my soapbox. Anyone else, I’m sure, would have responded to the humor of your piece (especially since so many view every aspect of their lives as immensely interesting to others these days).

You certainly have talent. It can take awhile for any writer to find his/her voice. Keep at it! The world needs thoughtful, intelligent people like you.

      2. Hi Anna ! First up thank you for your encouragement because it has meaning coming from a gifted writer
Yes agreed, narcissism is everywhere (or at least it appears that way at the moment)
        Finally, no apology necessary
Feel free to express anything you want in this space
        I welcome it 🙏🙂
